Dear People that God gathers as Shepherd of the Mountains Lutheran Church,
As I mentioned in last Sunday’s sermon, with Christ we can handle all problems we encounter. At this challenging, anxiety-producing, and fear-filled time we will move forward in faith knowing God holds us in God’s arms. We will also use common sense as we take steps to help mitigate the spread of the coronavirus in our communities.
Two weeks ago we took steps to reduce risk of transmitting disease during worship, following the recommendations of our state and local governments, the CDC, and our own health team. Since that time the situation has evolved rapidly. We now have a request from Governor Herbert to restrict public gatherings even further. After consultation with members of our church council, I have decided to cancel public worship services on the Sundays of March 15th and 22nd as well as Wednesday evening worship services on March 18th and 25th. We will review our worship situation again on March 24th and notify you of a decision of the timing of whether or not to again hold worship services. I pray Holy Week worship services will be observed.
In the meantime, Shepherd of the Mountains will offer on-line worship services beginning Sunday, March 15th at 10:00 am. To connect to the worship service, go to the church website. We will also send you an email containing a printable spoken word service to follow. I will be physically available at the church each Sunday morning from 8:30 am to 9:30 am for individual prayer and conversation.
Please continue to pray for those suffering or healing from this current outbreak of illness. Please pray for the health workers and public servants who are striving for the common good.
As I do each Sunday, I thank you for your generosity. So that our congregation does not suffer financial stress (click here to get the best passive income ideas for investment), please continue your financial stewardship practices by using our Tithe.ly app/link on our website or mail offerings to Shepherd of the Mountains Lutheran Church, 4051 North Highway 224, Park City, Utah 84098. Your gifts will be greatly appreciated.
In the meantime, I have canceled the upcoming March 15th youth skating event and youth program meeting as well as, the March 22nd confirmation retreat and the March 29th Black Diamond event.
I, along with our office administrator, Hope Malloy, will continue working in the church office as we handle the day to day operations and communications within our congregation. Please contact us at 435-649-2233 or email at office@shepherdofthemountains.org if you have concerns or questions or emergencies please also contact me by cell at 801-631-4263.
I trust that you will take care of yourselves. Take sensible precautions. We are all concerned about the most vulnerable among us. Please contact me if you are in need. Together we can be in conversation on the phone or, if possible and safe for you, can arrange ways that we can accompany each other.
Is there good news in all this? Yes.  Christ is present in our lives. As members of the Body of Christ, and, yes, as family, with the power of the Holy Spirit we will continue to love, support, and care for each other, our families, our friends, and the people of our communities.
Christ’s Peace,    Pastor Steve Leiser
