Every Wednesday the Building Task Force (BTF) meets with the architect and contractor to discuss the progress of the construction and to make decisions. Carpet and shingle color were the topics this week. Early in the project, the decisions were big picture — which side of the building are the classrooms, do we have a basement, how do we resolve the hot water issue? Most often asked: how do we keep the scope of the project within budget and still accomplish our objective for the building to further the Church’s mission?
A decision had to be made to include or not include a new front entry in the scope of the project. Because we were on tight strings, the BTF decided that functional space took priority over aesthetics. It was an area that needed to be addressed for maintenance issues (leaking windows), but that we had to watch our dollars. Depending on fundraising, this area could put back into the project during construction. Well, that time has arrived.
THE BUILDING TASK FORCE NEEDS YOUR HELP TO DECIDE whether or not we can construct a new front entry. We have heard from many a vote of “YES! It should be included.” Unfortunately, a verbal vote is not what we need to make the decision. We need a monetary vote. Unless we have the funds committed ($15,000), we can not add this expense to the project. This decision is imminent, so please alert the BTF of your vote by either making a donation this week or next, or communicating with one of the BTF members.
Scheduling Update
Sunday school is currently being held in the Nursery during services. The annual Oktoberfest fundraiser will not take place this year in its traditional form, although a fellowship gathering is pending. Watch for announcements soon for opportunities to clean out storage closets and the shed.
Fundraising
As mentioned in the section above, fundraising efforts are currently focused on determining the financial appetite for constructing a new front entry. Please remember to notate on any contributions “Building Fund” so that they can be properly recorded. Should you wish to discuss the timing of potential contributions, please feel free to contact any of the BTF members (Michelle Anderson, Bob Gross, Ann Futch, and Robbie Sletta). On-line capability for contributions is on its way!
